Default Stupid Question About one of those computer things

Ok, i need help, im too confused and rubbish with computers for this:

I want to upgrade some stuff in my desktop, bot too expensive as im getting a computer next year, but enought o get me by for now.

I want more ram, and also a newer processor.

My comp is terrible (P3 Processor, DirectX 8.0, 256Ram etc)

What processor should i get (remembering i dont do much gaming, mainly Unreal Tournament 04, Flight Sim etc). I need a cheap processor.

BUT! If i get a new processor, and i really should know the answer, do i need to update my motherboard/buy a new one or something?

Cheers

(P.S) if i need to update drivers for motherboard or something, where from?)

Ta

ok just get a new computer its hard to upgrade just that and you might as well get a new one for all the trouble, heres a good one for your purposes:

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005 - $191.00
RAM – http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145539 - $109.99
Mobo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138037 - $104.99
GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127201 - $96.99
HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144415 - $52.99
Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119068 - $49.99
PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182017 - $54.99

Total - $661

reasonable price and very balanced, and you can easily upgrade the RAM and GPU if you need to

What are the specs of your processor? What speed?

How cheap is cheap?

You probably will. At that point, it really becomes useless to keep upgrading.

It all depends what motherboard you have

Can you give us more detailed information on your computer?

Oh, and also a budget for the upgrades.

Exactly why you should build a new computer instead...

But he's not, so why would you suggest that he do so?

because if hes upgradeing his CPU and motherboard, and he has low RAM and an outdated system, you might as well just build a new one versus wasting money on a new CPU and motherboard and then upgradeing within a year...

just makes sense and a sub 700 C2D build is the obvious way to go

Yes, but no, and no. How many times need it be said that he is not building a new computer now? So would you stop recommending that he should?

Then who started the thread?

Exactly, and that's why I recommended that he not do so.
