Exclamation Video card directx question

OK, here is what I am wondering. Is directx software only, or does it have another affect on video cards? Here is why I ask. Vista is coming out in the next month or so. With it comes directx10. Does having a video card now that runs directx9 make any difference? Does it mean I will have to buy a directx10 video card?

I am building a PC, and a video card I thought was good for the price had a review from a guy saying,"Perfect tide-me-over card before DirectX10 bursts open the market for new cards." So it makes me hesitate on buying a video card if I have to buy a new one in a few months just to keep up to date.

Any thoughts?

Oh here is the video card I am talking about, dunno if it matters, but I thought I would post it just in case. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150208

Thanks for any input on this.

Of course, Directx 9 cards will work with Directx 10. The only difference is you won't have full hardware support for the new features included with version 10

Hmm? You can build now if you want, but you need to realize that card won't have "FULL" dx10 support. There are some cards out now(8800's, maybe others, I haven't kept up with it) that do support DX10, but that's probably out of your budget.

Personally, I wouldn't wait on Vista. I don't understand why people want to upgrade to it so badly. You know it's going to be buggy at first, and not much is going to support it(new features and all...)
