My guesses are:
Spyware/Malware/Adware
Virus
Haven't defragged.

Get AVG Virus Scanner.
Search for free AVG in Google and you should get it.

Get Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal
Search for ^ in Google. Get the free one.

Go to:
Start
All Programs
Accessories
System Tools
Disk Deframentater

Scan with AVG and Lavasoft and do the defragment. And see if it's any better.

define slow... you mean windows loading, things processing, video games lag... internet is slow, what?
i mean windows loading slow could just be the hard drive and id say defrag and cleanup anything you dont want...
things processing could be software issues, malware, or background processes that you just need to terminate...
video games lagging could be a driver problem with the video card...
it could even be an old driver version on your motherboard that just needs to be updated (though i doubt it)
