Default Advent 7099

Hey all, i've got a advent 7099 and am trying to use the infa red port. Basically, i havnt got a clue about it as this is the first time ive even thought about using it. I see no infa red devices in device manager, or no unknown devices

Anything..I just want to try it, it would be good to use a remote control tho..

I don't believe it can be used for remote controls. There aren't many devices that make use of the infrared port, generally they're PDAs and such.

I thought i would be able to use a remote for controling media centre or something like that...Well what can i use it for exactly?

I have never heard of a remote that uses the infrared port. Of course that doesn't mean they don't exist, either. Generally they are used for computer to computer, or with PDAs and phones for data transfer.

Surely it can be used as a remote, would be pretty stupid if not lol. Anyway thanks for the infomation, just gota figure out how to use it.

No, it can't. The beam is low powered and short range, only about 3 or 4 feet.
