its a good idea and should be a good learning experience, but keep in mind there are already companies that do that and its going to be hard to compete with them bc they buy in bulk which means they can get parts for cheaper. also, are you prepared to offer support and a warranty to people?

back to the webhosting aspects, just ask questions as you go. but you really do not need to use a linux server to host a webpage.
