Angry I Can't see the selection square in my desktop

I can't see the selection square when I try to select something.
When I try to select something on the desktop, the selection square only follows my mouse for a half second and then it freezes. I can still select things if I only it is annoying because the frozen selection square stays on the desktop till another window comes over it. sometimes I couldn't even see my wallpaper because my desktop was full of selection squares. It only happens on my desktop.

Can somebody help me?

Talking Hey

Hey...I am afraid I cannot help you much but I hope I will comfort by saying that I had exactly the same problem. I think it disappeared after I changed the mouse. I may be wrong. I mean I know I somehow got rid of it...but really do not remember how. Are you using Windows ME by the way? I did not see it anywhere on an XP machine. Try changing the mouse. Or maybe try changin the wallpaper format...anything...
