Question Will DX10 Cards Stay this BIG?!

Hi guys, I'm new here and have a question. I have a Radeon X700 Pro 256 MB PCI express card and may soon be upgrading to a higher GPU memory. I mainly play FSX (MS Flight Simulator X) and it's wicked graphics intensive (Im From Mass. so, excuse the use of wicked lol). I want to wiat to upgrade until i have more choices in Direct X 10.0 video cards. I was wondering, will they remain as huge in size as the GeForce 8800s??? Those things are huge and wont fit in my or most computers, 10.5" long and pretty wide too. Is this just because it's new, will they get smaller? Thanks
Chris

they'll most likely make them a bit smaller, but i suggest you replace your case instead... any high end video card creates a lot of heat and you'll need some really nice airflow if you want it to dissipate all that heat... or just get an arctic cooling device for it, i have good airflow and an arctic cooling nv silencer on mine

good choice, the waiting for DX10
wait til Q2 '07 though, they'll design newer cards that have geometry shaders, you know... for playing stuff on medium, yet still directX 10, settings.

btw, im from ny and i know people that say wicked... you dont need to be excused lol
welcome to the forum!
you'll want to get to know omega and the other one.
haha you'll see what i mean... and pc eye too.

its very likely that they will shrink. look at the compuetr the size of 3 huge rooms that performed basic mathematical calculation from the 1960s, and look at a calculator today... they are going to become smaller, dont even worry about it, just give it time.

yes but they would need to design a card thats a bit less powerful with the same technology in order to make it smaller, and we cant guarantee that they're going to do that...

so your answer is: we dont know... but its likely. you'll simply have to wait.

They will make lower end 8000 series cards, such as the 8400 and 8600. Most likely those cards will be smaller, but in general, IMO they will not be getting much smaller, unless they find new ways to manufacture them.

I use wicked alot to

Well, to be fair, look at the Voodoo cards, the higher end ones are almost as big as the 8800GTX, where as you can have a low profile 6600 and have it kill the Voodoo cards and be MUCH smaller.

give it two years
