No, it most certainly is not.

You know, it really does help to know what you're talking about before you speak.

First off, don't double post if you can help it. Next thing is, you are wrong.
AVG, antivir, and avast run circles around norton, mcafee, and trend micro.

Same to you, perhaps you should do a bit of research next time.

AVG anti-spyware and AVG anti-virus are two separate programs that can be downloaded from the AVG website...

In my opinion, some paid anti-virus programs are better than some free ones, but in the end it depends on what programs you are comparing.

Viruses have been severly decreased in distribution in the past few years, and spyware have grown almost exponentially at the same time. Alot of today's "Viruses" are trojans, which ride both sides of the fence.. (they are classified as both virus and spyware, depending on what program you use).

Having said that,... the state of anti-virus and anti-spyware programs is currently in a state of flux, the anti-spyware programs are starting to do viruses and the anti-virus programs are starting to do spyware. I would project in the next 2 years, you'll have just anti-malware programs and that's it. (example: spysweeper now does viruses, and trendmicro now does spyware).

As to the topic... (in my opinion) certain freewares do every bit as good for cleaning a machine as the paid ones (in some cases, better).

If i were going to use a paid one, it would be either trendmicro or symantec corporate edition, or NOD.
