Default Laptop Won't Type Properly

My mate has a laptop and she's struggling to type her password in the start up log in menu.
According to her it's letting her type some letters and not some others.
Also it is also putting it's own letters in too. Meaning she can't log on her laptop.
Quick help please!
Thank You

very useful reply ^^

-has she tried plugging in an external keyboard then trying the password?
-did she infact spill something on the keyboard or did she do something to the laptop that could have effected the keyboard?

if she hasnt tried the external keyboard i would try it, just to see if it is an error with the laptop keyboard, not the OS or whatever...

As Dropkickmurphys said try a external keyboard and if that doesn't work she might have to replace the keyboard in her laptop....
