Default What's the best Linux software?

Well since I got the PS3 and it can run Linux, I was wanting to get familiar with it to see if I actually want it on my PS3. One of my friends from another forum said that I could download a "Live CD" and test it out to see if I like it or not, but there are A LOT of types of Linux, I was wondering which one is the best for a person trying to just get familiar with it? Thanks.

PS3

Yellow Dog Linux is designed for the PS3 http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/products/ydl/ however I believe you have to pay for it.

I don't know if there are any other distros designed for the PS3.

PC

YDL uses the enlightenment - E17 window manager, so a distro using that as default might be best so that you are familiar with it. You can install E17 on any distro but as a beginner that might be a bit complicated for you.

I don't know of a distro that has E17 as standard apart from YDL but I'll look around and post if I find one.
YDL is also rpm based so ideally you want to try an rpm based distro with E17.

Some good live CDs are slax (try the killbill edition)
And
Knoppix

DSL(Damn Small Linux)
What is special about DSL is that it can boot off of a USB storage device.
Required:
1. Download DSL
2. Download Syslinux3.11
3. Download Hp Format Utility
How To:
1. Insert your USB Storage Device into an empty USB slot on your PC
2. Open Hp format utility and format accordingly:

* Device: The name and capacity of your storage device
* File system: FAT
* Volume label: Name it what you want (I chose LINUX)

3. Download and Extract all the files from syslinux-3.11 to a folder named Syslinux on your primary hard drive (mine is C

4. Go to the Run Menu (Click Start> Run) and open the Command Prompt by entering cmd and pressing Enter (or Click OK).

5. At the Command Prompt type cd c:\syslinux\win32 (substitute c: for the drive letter of your hard drive) and Press Enter

6. Type syslinux.exe -f F: (F: reprents the drive letter of my USB Device. Yours may be different. GET THIS RIGHT). Press Enter.

All Done!
Keep your USB Device plugged in and Reboot your PC.
Enter your BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2 or DEL) and set your Boot order to boot from the USB Device First. Exit your BIOS and Save the Changes.

If it works, you should see this:

Thanks for your help everyone. I guess that you need to have a USB mouse and Keyboard before installing linux on the PS3, so I'm going to just wait.
