wondering...i have a 80 gig hdd that registers about 75 gigs in windows which is normal i think?...my problem is when i go into properties for that drives space it says that i have used 12 gigs...when i open the drive and select all the contents hidden files and all it only registers that the size of all the data on that drive is 7 gigs...any ideas as of why its doing this...my other 2 drives are registering about 5-9 gigs lower than what they actualy are which is fine cause when i check the amount of data on it and compare that to the properties on the drive its right on...only my c drive is doing this...it is about 2 months old bought it brand new from newegg and its a seagate...thanks for your help

it may be an invisible paging/firmware partition
i think most ata drives have this....... also, the discrepancy between actual and shown disk space is due to microsoft's improper interchangeability between gigabytes and gibabytes. 1000mB vs. 1024mB |

Without getting into the whole calculation deal, hard drive manufacturers only use 1000MB for a gigabyte(1024MB) An 80GB drive being only 74-75GB is(unfortunetly) perfectly normal.
