I bought a pair of 512mb sticks of Corsair XMS DDR400 ram for my rig a while back, i attempted to OC about a month after i got the ram with no luck. The ram would not be stable over 220mhz and even at stock speeds the CAS had to be at 3 or it wouldnt boot. This ram has been complete sh!t and i dont recommend anyone to buy it. I do however have a single stick of PNY Verto Gamer memory rated at DDR500 that OCs great, that ram got my cpu up to 280mhz. I cant even run a divider with this XMS crap cuz even if i run it at 133mhz it still wont boot if my cpu is OCed.
DO NOT BUY CORSAIR RAM! If anyone knows of some great OCing DDR400 ram i would like to get a new 1gb dual channel kit. I was looking at maybe Patriot, does anyone know if they are anygood? I want ram that would be stable at 280mhz (DDR560 at least). |

Yea, boosted it to 2.75v and still nothing. Do you think it could maybe be my psu? Its one of those cheaply made X-Connect by Ultra....400watts, i think the 12v rail is 12amps? Im not sure. Im thinking maybe if i buy a new psu then i can upgrade to the 8800GTS with no problem and hopefully with a new psu my memory will at least run stable at 250mhz. Id like to run my cpu at 250mhz with my synced with it. |

Get a new PSU and then re-test. With amperage that low I wouldn't expect any brand RAM to overclock well.
Corsair has been in the business a while, definetly an "enthusiast" oriented brand. They make quality/reliable RAM that ALOT of people overclock with. But don't forget, EVERY brand has it's "bad batches". My FAVORITE brand of RAM (OCZ) sent me a bad kit of RAM that sucked majorly...I just returned it and got anotehr kit that was superb. You've got to trial and error before you come to a conclusion. One test can't speak for millions of kits of RAM out there. Test 9-10 kits and then make a decision

That's interesting since Corsair xms serie DDR400 ram was replaced with Kingston Value Ram here on the old Asus A7N8X Deluxe board where memtest showed the memory as faulty. The pair of 512s were replaced with the 2gb of Kingston now used on the A8N SLI board here. Memtest showed 573 errors with the Kingston while 64 with the Corsair strictly running stock. On the new board "none" have been found. Certain makes and types of memory are touchy with certain makes and model boards.
