I have a very weird problem...

I went to use my tv-out on my new mobo:

ASUS M2NPV-VM (AM2) w/onboard nVidia GeForce 6150 GPU & nForce 430 MCP

The motherboard is not designed to allow both my monitor and my tv, only one at a time.

It worked fine, but ever since the new mobo i have been having weird problems, some (if not all) video related problems. The system randomly restarts on a regular basis (the ram, mobo, and CPU, are brand spankin new, everything else worked absolutely fine b4 the upgrade). Or it freezes and the screen starts turning into a checkerboard as squares of color begin filling in pixel by pixel (hence the video related problem?).

So i updated my drivers and then I went to select tv-out. So it shut off my monitor as usual and then sent my desktop to my TV... too bad the new drivers are bad and nothing appeared on my tv. So the new tv-out part of the drivers is skrewed. I am 90% sure this is the case and that my desktop is actually on my TV, i just can't see it.

My problem is, how the heck do I get back to my monitor? I really have no way of seeing my desktop.

The boot, all the way up to and including the XP loading screen, I can see on my monitor. 99% sure (tested) that a new driver install will still boot to the tv and not revert back to the monitor. Restarts and disconnecting the GPU cable have done nothing.

You may also be helpful if you have nVidia video in your system because after the driver update there were 2 nVidia options in the right-click menu from the desktop, i think it was nVidia Control Panel and nVidia Displays (or something to that effect). From here I could actually select the monitor (i tried doing this blindly to no avail). I would just need some help to tell me where exactly it appears in the menu so that I could try and do it myself.

ps... some of you may be wondering why I wen't x64 XP: x86 was slow and more unstable, went to x64: much faster, more stable.

With a new board seeing persistent restarts there are few things to look at. Often on new boards seeing problems you have to download the latest bios update due to boards getting out with corrupted programming at times. A freash bios update is the usual advice given.

With the attempts there to run two things at once you created a conflict with the software environment as well as possible hardware dilemna. The fast way to end any problems with the display would be to remove the software and drivers alike for the video card in order to return to the default Windows vga drivers. Once you have a normal desktop returned reinstall the software and drivers for the card.

Thanks for the help, any thoughts on how I could go about deleting the drivers since i cannot actually see my desktop?

EDIT: hmmm, if i had half a brain i might of thought of this yesterday... um Safe Mode...lol. That worked fine, I'll try the BIOS update. Thanks again.

Safe mode until a normal desktop returns and then a right click on the listing in the device manager to uninstall the device would see Windows generally remove remaining drivers. But your main problem there was trying to use both where one had to be disabled with the onboard. You would have to buy a card with the tv out feature in order to setup both there.
