few pointers

Make sure all clients are on the same work group. For example my workgroup at home is Vallhalla, so every client has that as their work group

Now, you can try the following steps to see where the problem is

1) Get all the ips of your clients by going to start > run > cmd > ipconfig

2) Now from the client that is not conencting go to start > run > cmd > ping <ip of client> and see if you can even ping it. If you can ping it go to next step, if you can't try repairing your network connection and other various troublehsooting steps

3) go to start > run > and type this \\<ip of client you just pinged> and see if it pulls up the shares via windows explorer

Now if for some reason they are all on different subnets that is also a problem. Make sure your router is set up to give all clients the same ip scheme and same sub net.

If the problem still persists you could have issues with your OS. Try booting into the recovery console and use this command

chkdsk /r

Oh and also make sure that they have actually shared some resources on their machines first. By right clicking on a folder and going to properties, and then the sharing tab.

right thanks tlarkin,

he did all of the things you said.

His laptop can ping the desktop and it is succesfull

he can see the shared folder that is on his desktop from while on his laptop, but if he clicks on it it says access denied.

this is weird do you have any idea why it is denying him access to the folder?

thanks

if the folder is password protected or encyrpted (private) other clients can not have access to it. Make sure he did not make any folders private.

is any of you using norton virus protection, if you are , access the internet worm protection and disable it (it will work even if you disabled the whole auto protect), just another fine product from symantec!
