Official Musical Competition
Welcome to the computerforum.com musical competition, a 14 day event judged by our own members. The idea behind this competition is to allow anybody to record their music for the people of CF, to show off their talents and get some practice. The main point is you just have fun! The Basic Setup The competition works on a bi-weekly rotation. That is, every 14 days a new theme will be provided. Members will then take that theme and create a piece of music to the best of their ability within the theme/parameters set by me and Rambo, the adjudicators. A link to the recorded entries are to be PM’ed to myself or Rambo, following which 72 hours of voting on the anonymous entries takes place in a public poll. The winner is announced and has the privilege of deciding on the following week’s theme, within the guidelines set. This privilege can be waived at the discretion of the weekly winner. Weekly Rotation Timescale Monday (first week) The theme will be submitted in this thread. Wednesday (second week) Entries submitted via PM will be included in a voting poll, which will be made available for 48 hours. Saturday The winner of the democratic vote will be announced, allowing time for the winner to submit to the adjudicator their choice for the new theme. Rules Guidelines for everyone 1. The piece of music you submit must be no longer then 120 seconds long. 2. You are allowed to cover a song already done by an artist, but you must do it all yourself. For example, if you were to cover 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by 'Nirvana' and you were to include the bass, guitar and singing. You would have to record yourself playing bass, guitar and doing the singing. 3. The piece of music that you submit must all be done by yourself, you cannt get help from anybody (person or recording). 4. Any recording that is deemed by the adjudicator to be indecent, offensive or potentially offensive with regards creed, colour, religion, sexual orientation or political motivation will not be allowed. 5. Noises or lyrics or other marking will not be allowed that may help identify the creator of the audio file for the purposes of vote fixing. 6. One entry per person per week. Once a recording is submitted for a given week, no alterations or resubmissions may take place. Any recordings submitted and deemed inappropriate will exhaust that person's entry for that week. 7. Entries are accepted only via PM to myself or Rambo and only by link to externally sourced recording. 8. Participants may not vote for their own recordings. If this happens, either accidentally or deliberately, that participant will have their vote discounted. 9. In the event of a vote tie, the winner will be randomly generated by computer from the tied entries. Guidelines for competitors 1. Competitors taking part have until 23:59 GMT on the Wednesday to provide a recording for the following week’s competition. 2. If by this time no recording has been submitted, no competition / voting will take place for that week. 3. Submitted recordings should preferably be in the .MP3 format - but other formats can be accepted. This is a new idea, and the rules may be altered/tweaked slightly as time goes on. The adjudicators reserve the right to alter the parameters of the competition at any time, but will only do so if benefit will be gained from it. What Should I use to record my music? Audacity: Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Window's Sound Recorder: You can simply use a microphone connected to your computer. Where can I host my recording to provide a linking code? Simple! Simply visit:http://www.sendspace.com/ http://www.4shared.com Upload your audio file and send me or Rambo the link to it. Or use another file hosting service that allows you to provide a linking code to the file. Final Notes 1. Your music you submit must be done by yourself. You cannot have somebody else (person or recording) in your track. 2. You can layer your recording; for example, have you playing an instrument in the background while you sing over the top. Thanks go to magicman, for providing the basic format of these rules.
