Default need help setting up a new internet connection

Ok people, please bare with me here. I'm very much a novice when it comes to networking. Here is my setup. I have a computer in one room that is connected to the cable modem. The cable modem is then connected to a Linksys Wireless Router. Coming off the router is another line running down to another computer. I still have two slots left on the router. I just got a 3 year old compaq laptop and I would like to just run a line from the router out to the living room or something so i can use the internet while I'm on the couch or whatever. I did this, but I have no idea how to setup the connection on the laptop. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You shouldn't have to set anything up... It should get the IP address and what not by DHCP and just work.

if it's wireless, why are you even using the ethernet hub on it for computers in another room?

well, when i plug the cable in, and click on IE...I get the dreadful "page cannot be displayed". OH...and I would LOVE to use wireless so I dont have to run that dang cable. I have a linksys wireless card that I also just acquired, so if thats a possibility....im all for it! I just have NO idea where to start. I do have the card installed and it recognizes the wireless network...but when I try to connect via wireless, still "page cannot be displayed"

I would also like to mention that I have a MacBook Pro and I have never had any problems logging on to any kind of network at all. Anybody know why that is? How the Compaq has so much trouble, but my mac here doesn't?
