Default What got you into computers?

Well, i think any and every computer forum would need a thread like this lol.

So what was it that got you all interested in computers?

For me it was my step-dad. He used to build computers, thats where i got alot of my parts for my earlier builds from his old ones. But now iv gone off on my own with my own stuff.

Started back pry when i was about 8 or 9. I never had my own computer back then, but the ones id always see at microcenter (my home away from home lol) always made me "wow". Then one day my step-dad finally told me he would build me my own computer.

Consisted of an Athlon XP +2000 at 1.6ghz socket A, 256mb of DDR333 Kingston value ram, an MSI KM2M Combo mobo that supported up to 166mhz fsb and no dual channel, a GeForce 2 MX200 (later upgraded to a GeForce 5200 AGP), and a 300watt power supply by Starforce.

It wasnt much, but it got me started. Got that AMD up to 2ghz and she ran like a dream. Course this was back in about 2003. I miss it. The mobo crapped out after a power supply overload.

Don't really know, I was just pretty good at understanding a lot of the stuff, and then just went from there. I don't really remember any one particular incident...

My parents had a computer as far back as I can remember, starting with our Apple IIc Honestly, I could of cared less about that machine, but I did get a good bit of use out of it. We upgraded around 1995, but I still didn't do that much with technology. I tinkered with it, but refused to get on the internet for the longest time!

Around 1997, I had some surgery done on my foot(fallen arches and what not. I would typically limp when I walked...) Just before this time, I was offered an old Tandy. Of course I couldn't go outside, so I just stayed inside and played with that computer. Later that year, I made friends with another "nerd". We managed to get some computers from our school that had been donated(they didn't keep them because they used Macintosh at the time...) so that was one more step for me. Things just basically grew from those points on...

I think it was the flashing little green HDD LED.

But seriously, I don't know, computers are amazing! Especially when you look into an open computer case and see all the little fiddly bits and wonder how they do the things they do.

I have always liked arcade games and video games. When I figured out my dad worked on computers for a career, I got interested.
