Default DOOM 3 help

I tried to turn the settins on DOOM 3 to ultra quality and when i click apply settings a pop up comes up saying:

WARNING
Running DOOM 3 in ultra quality utilizes over 500 megabytes of texture memory. Running in this mode is not recommended. Are you sure you want to proceed?

What does this mean? What do they mean by 500 megabytes of texture memory?

The message is warning you that increasing the graphics setting to that level will result in high memory usage. you have a 256MB GPU so 500Mb would be over-kill for the poor thing.

p.s does the game work on ultra quality?

well unless you have a 512Mb GPU i wouldn't cause it would have to use your RAM for texture storage which is not good (would slow the whole thing down)

It is clear dude !! this is simple ,when you try to run a high quality graphic game on your pc and your ram and graphic card memory can not afford such game requirement you are supposed to read such messages.
To solve it you have either to run it in recommended quality level or to upgrade your pc .

Nevertheless, I played doom 3 on my 256Mb card on ultimate detail, And I saw no problem whatsoever. I'm sure my FPS were lowered alittle bit, which is what happens when textures and geometry are loaded on the mediocritely slower system RAM , but not necessarily a slow down. Of course it would mean a slow down if your FPS were just at the minimum at high, and it threw it over the edge, but it wasn't my case.

BTW 7600gt
