Default The Official Home Theater Project (in progress)

Ok. Well, im an audioholic. I love big speakers and loud music. Lately, theres been this new company in the car audio world that goes by the name of Boss Audio. They have been around for a little while but are just now getting a name for themselves. They make very cheaply priced speakers, so youd expect them to be not good quality stuff. Well, from my experience, i bought a single 12" Riot R125 for $40 and i must say i am indeed impressed with its sound quality and loudness. Thus i got this great idea. Why just have a single 12"?

I have decided to create a full home theater using only Boss Audio speakers and subwoofers. Iv had great experience using car audio for home audio.

Anyway, right now the main front channel and later rear channel (will contain 4 12" subwoofers and 4 component speakers) is gonna be powered by a cheap old re-built and modified 75watts RMS Samsung Max-909 component system.

Dont be fooled by the 75watts, this thing has a great amp in it and will get very very loud.

After im done with the front and rear, then comes the fun part. The subwoofer. For the subwoofer im using their top of the line Boss Blade 15" 700 watts RMS DVC (dual 4 ohms) in a medium sealed enclosure. This subwoofer is gonna be powered by a 500watt RMS bridged Boss Blade car amp which will be powered by a 600watt computer power supply. The reason i chose to go with the 15" is cuz i REALLY wanna shake the house. The 15" cone will allow it to really hit the lows good and vibrate everything.

So far iv calculated it to cost me about $560 for the main setup. The actual speakers come later. For the speakers front and rear they will be Boss Audios component speakers, pry 6.5 inch im not sure yet. Here is all the items im looking at buying soon (within the next month at the most)

These will be the 4 12" subwoofers for the front(already have one, only need 3 more): http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=15923

These will be the enclosure for each side for the subwoofers (i already have one, so i only need one more):
http://www.cardomain.com/item/RTE32612

This will be the 15" subwoofer: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=15888

This is the amp powering the subwoofer: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=15850

And this is the power supply to power the amplifier:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153033

So once i get all the parts, i will post a video and pics once the setup is all put together. Wish me luck!

Boss has been around for several years now...not sure exactly how many but i've seen them at least 4 years ago, and yes you are right in saying they have a cheap 'image' in the market place. I currently have a Boss 1000W 4CH AMP in my car...not that im promoting them, its just that i have an old cheap car and didnt want to spend lots of money on a sound system for it, but anyway, the Boss gets the job done.

Are you saying that you are using 4 of the 12' subs for your front left & right speakers??? If you do this i fear that you will overpower the dialog, trebble & midtones when watching movies & listening to music. I would suggest dropping them down to about a 10' or even 8' size.
Have you thought about what tweeters & woofers your going to use?

is that 75w/ch or 75w total? From what you've said, it looks like your planing on running the 4 12' subs and woofers straight off the deck wont you need an AMP...for each channel!

you should get alot of "rumble" out of the 15' but have you thought about going for 2x 12' for the SUB....i believe this will give you tighter/better response.

Will be good to see how it all goes though....make sure you post the pics for us while you do it.

My Car system is currently an old Clarion Deck(think its 75w/ch), 4x 6' Clarion mids, Boss 4CH 1000W AMP, No-name Sub.

My Home HiFi / Theater system is;
Reciever/AMP = Harmon Kardon AVR-635 (7.1ch 75W RMS High Current. 0.07%THD)
Front L&R Speakers = Dynaudio - Audience 62 (Floor standing, 150W, 4ohm)
Haven't forked out the money for the rest of them yet.

Im gonna have enough speakers to keep up with the 4 12" believe me lol. Im gonna make sure everything is equal, though i like my bass so thats why im kickin the 15", but i might need 2 15" so i can bridge the amp on 4 ohms.

The 75watts is 75watts RMS, 150watt max component system. Its not really an AMP, but it has a pretty powerful amp in it. I think later though im gonna buy a new component system to power it, at least 200watts RMS. The reason im not using a reciever is becuz for the power i need, the reciever with that amount of power would cost me way more then a component system of equal power. Yes, i relize that its becuz there is alot more channels, but to be honest, as of now im not interested in having more then 2 channels. Maybe someday i will get a good reciever to power it all, but for now just component.

You gave me a good idea though, for the 2 12" on each side i could get a small 150watt or 200watt RMS amp to power them.

And to the other comment, yes it would be smarter to go with a higher end company such as maybe JBL, but what im trying to do here is build a great sounding loud system without spending thousands of dollars. One that will amaze many. And with my experience with Boss Audio, their prices are great for the quality iv seen and heard.

Oh, and you say that Boss Amp is 1000watt max that your using? How good does it sound and does it get pretty loud? I might get one to power my 12" Premier in my car......pry a higher end model amp, but iv never used a Boss amp so i dont know about their quality, i like their subwoofers though. Good bump for the the price tag.

Be carefull dropping them down to 4ohms as this increases the strain on your AMP/deck and increases the current draw...can almost create a short-circuit when the resistance of your speaker coils flucktuate up & down in parrellel with changes in the frequency they are reproducing.

My floor standing speakers are 4ohm, however my amp in a High Current amp which can handle/obsorbe the impedance changes of the speaker.

Im talking about bridging the car amp ill be using to power the 15"s.

However the component system im using also runs fine at 4ohms. Its at 4 ohms now and will run full blast without the protection kicking on. Its rated for 6 ohms minium.

Here are pics of the current layout:

The component system:

The speakers (currently on one channel wired in series-parallel with one tweeter and one mid-range and one subwoofer):

Sorry for the crappy pics, i no longer have an actual camera that was takin with my video cameras camera.

LOL....i'd have to agree with you there. I think bang for buck my Dynaudios standup reasonably well against the B&W Nautilus considering i only paid AU$1500 for them
