For dual channel you usually need the same size DIMM in the same bank of the 2nd channel (usually slots 1/3 and 2/4). The size doesn't matter as long as it's the same. You could use 2x256MB DIMMs if you wanted.

Some memory controllers can make a partial dual channel setup if you use different sized DIMMs.
