Default Thermaltake MiniTyphoon problem

Iv had this cpu cooler for a few months now, and its been fine but all the sudden the fan makes this annoying noise when it first boots up.

Its very loud and sounds like it shouldnt be doing that, it continues until i stop the fan with my hand and release, then everything is fine.

Does it sound like the motor may be dieing?

IM not a computer genius...but I AM very knowledgeable with the automotive world, and electric fans are part of it Yes its on its way out...BUT theres no guideline as to when. If you dont want to spend money on replacement just keep doing the manual stop thing, maybe give it a good hard press once to see if maybe it has come out of its bearing seat.

I've heard that if you apply a little lubricant (like WD40), you can get a little bit more life out of the fan. It's not still under warranty is it, otherwise you could just get it replaced. If not, I'd order a new fan pretty soon so your not stuck computerless when it goes out.

Well, since there is a 120mm fan right next to my cpu heatsink, which has 6 heatpipes and is 100% copper with AS5, if the fan does go out couldnt i just leave it like that? MY cpu is not currently OCed and i dont plan on OCing it anymore. I just OCed it to see how high i could get it. Right now idle temps are about 30c.

That's not the optimal condition to have your CPU in, but I suppose you could probably get by. Also, I just googled your cooler, and it looks like you could rig a different fan on there.

Yes, spray a electric conductive fluid on something that goes in your computer. Well, it's your computer do what you want or buy a fan, not that expensive.

Don't be stupid. You would have to remove it and take it apart, and apply it carefully in the right spot. By no means was I suggesting that he start spraying WD 40 all around inside his case.
