The input cables for the speakers in your home theater should be the same that plug into your laptop..just unplug them from your home theater console-thingy, and plug them into your (5.1, 7.1, whatever) capable sound card.

does your laptop have spdif output?

if so, bypass the sound card to the spdif, and plug that into your receiver

Default Heya

SPDIF out is an optical audio output - red light may ring some bells

Gotta love the power of GOOGLE : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S/PDIF

Its usefulness is for when you have multispeaker setups ... one cable can carry all the signals for the various channels
