Default IP addresses

Hello all,

I am currently in my A-level Computing Class. We are working on Pinging websites to get their IP addresses and in turn opening the website in Explorer using that IP address.

My question:

Can you ping Sub domains?

Our task is to be able to avoid the Lower School's Basic firewall by pinging the site and using the IP address to get in (only the domain name is blocked). But once on the home page in some sites e.g. eBay all the links take you to sub-domains which are blocked.

Can this be done? - We have spent two lessons wasting away trying to work this out.

Thanks

It is always helpful to explain your answer. If someone has the same problem in the future, we can simply send them to this thread.

Thanks
