On a LCD monitor will the quality only be good if you use the Maximum Resolution?

LCD monitors generally have low resolution for their size, why wouldnt you want to use the max?

But if you do lower it, it will be fine, but it may look a bit odd when you look at text.

for the 2D desktop it would look fine. As omega said, text might not look so nice. Many "good" LCDs look OK at lower resolutions in games. But OK is not great . It is always recommended to run an LCD at its native resolution for best appearance.
