Default Looking for a laptop

Ok, so I'm wanting to get a laptop, which I'll have to save up for. But I'm wondering if Toshiba is a good brand or not. Also, a core 2 duo processor is 2 processors right? So a core 2 duo 1.6 ghz processor is really the speed of a 2.4 ghz processor? This has me a bit confused. I'm buying a laptop for computer animation purposes, and my price range is going to be somewhere between $400 and $1200 roughly, may end up being a bit more, not sure though. I don't even know what to look for in a laptop really cause I've never owned one. All I know is that I want a decent processor speed, at least 1 gb of ram, a decent hard drive, a decent video card (probably 128 mb). Can someone help me with this?

A dual core 1.6 will be much fast than any other line of single core Intels at 2.6, and decently faster than an AMD at 2.6

These dual core laptops, they're good for graphics heavy applications, right?

Dual core suits any need: multimedia, gaming, whatever.

well start off by asking yourself what the purpose is?

if you're going to be carrying it around a lot and don't mind a small screen I'd recommend an ultraportable.

if you want a bigger screen but still want mobility, I'd recommend a thin and light of the 13.3" and 14.1" variety.

then there are 15.4 inch screens and 17 inch screens and sager's 20inch screens.

we can't really help you unless we know what you want to do with this system and if weight/size isn't an issue. Also will you be doing any gaming and if so what games?

are you going to be paying with credit or debit/check/mo/cash ??

good luck

Well I said in my first post that it was going to be for computer animation. So I'm going to need a decent sized screen, preferably 15 inches or higher. I dunno the exact amount of cash that I'll have(yep, that's what I'll be paying with), because I'm saving up for a few months. I don't think I'll be carrying it around that much, so a battery that lasts 3 hours or less without needing to charge might work for me. Weight isn't an issue at all, since I'll most likely be setting it on a table or something while I do my work.

If that's the case, then what fits your budget best are:

Dell E1505

or

HP DV6000T

I'd probably go with the HP. For a little more money, the build quality is a tad better.
