Default How do i make my computer faster? Pleasee help

I know i have to buy something but what?
Lately i brought a new sound card and it freezes and stop working very often so i have to restart my computer to get it on again.
Anyways what do i buy?

my computer has 512 ram but thats all i know
thanks alot

edit- i also see it has a 71.03gb "capacity". 51gb of which is still free

Go into Start -> Control Panel -> then either system or performance and maintanance system.

Then tell me what you have for a cpu in there. It will say it on the first screen.

well it seems that your cpu is good but you should consider upgradeing your Ram. if you have only one stick of 512 then you could just open your box and see the specifics of that stick and get another of the same. that alone should make a pretty big dif.

also what do you use your computer for mostly?

when was the last time you did the basic maintance? i.e. Hard drive defrag/error checking? should be done ATLEAST once a month.

Yeah you will notice quite a boost of performance if you add another stick of 512Mb ram which of course will give you a total of 1Gb....unless you have shared video memory that is.

If you are into gaming you could invest in a new Graphics Card... You'll have to check what type of slot you have though.

Its the same for video or photo editing. Id start with ram. But since we dont know what you use it for, or whast in it.....its a pretty difficult call
