i'll soon have cable internet at my house and would like to be able to watch and record the cable programs. im looking for some help on cards (ext or internal) that people know of that are good, and some tutorials. maybe even some software names for the tuning and recordeing.

p.s. i pretty much want to use my computer as a tivo.

thanks !

i use windows media center, and it works great.

it's even compatable with dual tuner cards, so you can record two shows at once, or watch one show while recording another.

just make sure the card you get has the philips tuners, and not the samsungs, or you'll be really disappointed.

Also make sure the tuner has onboard video compression, whether it be divx or mpeg2, or it'll be a huge resource hog, and you'll most likely drop more frames than you capture.

that's exactly what i have, but my board is made by asus.

Very nice cards, and onboard mpeg-2 compression, like i was talking about, all for a reasonable price.
