Unhappy Help Fast Plz!!!!

Ok.

I play Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth II - Rise Of THe Witch King alot
and my friend wants to get it so we can play it with each other(he just has Lord Of The Rings: Battle For Middle Earth II not the ROTWK expansion)

All i know aobut his computer is:
eMachines
Athlon 3200+
1gb RAM DDR400 (512x2 dual channel)
120gb HARDDRIVE
6600gt video card

ANYWAY... his games used to play fine (he playes Counter Strike and Battle For Middle Earth II). Now they dont. (this happened back in summer they stopped working... we dont know what caused it...)

WHAT HAPPENS: he starts the game... the screen that says "Battle For MIddle Earth" comes up in the center of the screen like normal... then when the game would usually go into full-screen a black screen flickers then closes out and a dialog box pops up that says something to the effect:

"make sure newest version of directX is installed and make sure hardware is accelerated"

something about those things...

now
i know he has the newest version of directX is installed because he installed it and we did that like 5 times...

i went to the display options to check the hardware acceleration... it was a full...

what is the problem????? help?
he is hesitant to buying the expansion because he doesn't think it will work...

Edit: THIS IS A FAMILY COMPUTER HE IS USING SO REFORMATTING IS NOT AN OPTION

have you tried updating the video card drivers?

Forceware 93.71 win Xp

and when you go to Start -> Run and in that box you type dxdiag.. such a screen should appear, does it say no problems found on the 2nd tab?

here is a pic of what i mean (I just made it, and on my pc everything works just fine )

ok
we reinstalled the driver...
and then we did the dxdiag thing u told us to do... this is what we got:

Several files (dimap.dll, diactfrm.dll, gcdef.dll) are old versions, which could cause problems.

is that what you think is wrong?
and what can be done to fix it?

you really have to download DirectX9.0c, and install it.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx

if your DXdiag say's some files are old or missing,.. somthing is definately not right, just download dx9.0c and install it (i assume his windows is legit, since its an emachines, wich come standard with windows pre-installed, right?

and yes his windows is legit for sure

is there a way to download those files and replace them with the newest version?

and can anyone interpret what that game crash means?
