So I made a partition in Windows for Vista. But I realized that I really didn't want Vista on my computer so I deleted the partition, and got back all of my unallocated space back. However Vista still shows up in the windows boot partition. Is there anyway to remove this? Oh and I searched for the boot.ini but I couldn't find it. I also told windows to show hidden files. If it isn't a possibilty then could someone tell me how to make XP the default selection on the menu. Because although windows XP is the first selection, it is automatically selected on the second option, the vista one.

The boot manager for Vista is the bootmgr file found at the root of the drive along with a boot folder. There are a few Vista boot manager editing tools now available with the release of the retail full not beta versions. VistabootPRO has a shareware available to try out that new editing tool for subsitution of the BCDEditor. http://www.vistabootpro.org/index.php
Your boot.ini file is still on the drive otherwise you wouldn't be running XP at the moment. After right clicking on it to uncheck the hidden box you can use notepad even to remove the reference to Vista if any there and save it under all files not text files to overwrite the original. With the beta tool there you can rename or simply remove entries in the Vista boot manager. |
