I'm about ready to buy a Gateway FX530S computer and I think I want to go with a NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT video card. If any of you are familiar with this card I would appreciate any opinions you might have . My other choice would be a 7600GS. I'm not very famiiar with either card.
Thanks-Chuck

are you comparing a 7950gt to a 7600gs huge difference but i would recommend that you wait for the 8600gt to come out and see how they perform the 7950 gt is a great card but right now the smarter move is to wait but if you cant get the 7950 gt over the 7600gs definatly

The Gateway that I am going to buy has quite a few video card options but only the 7950 and7600 are in my price range. I would much rather get the 7950. The 7600 is much cheaper but I can afford to go with the 7950 if people think it is worth the extra bucks. I'm heavy into gaming.
Thanks for the comeback grimxx.-Chuck

Whats the difference in price between the 7600gs and the 7950? If its $150 or more you should go with the gs and buy a 8600/8800 card when they're out in a month. They support directx10 so if you are going to upgrade to vista(or if the one you're getting already has it.)you've got a futureproofed choice.

I know.
When you buy a prebuilt they give you a bunch of choices with different bottom lines. He could choose to have his built with a cheaper gs and buy a 8 series with the money he saved. That is assuming his gateway isnt so proprietary as to "reject" one of the 8 series cards. But from what i hear the 8600's are pretty small so i don't think there should be a problem.Last edited by hermeslyre; 02-10-2007 at 02:35 AM. |

Thanks for the comeback guys. Maybe I would be better off waiting until Gateway gives a card choice which supports directx10. I would buy nothing but Gateway. I've had 6 of them and they have all been great computers. I don't think I'd want to build a computer from scratch.

It will take a pretty long time till actual dx10 games will be released tough. (in.. well, 6 months at first) by the time its mainstream, I think there are much more, and also much better DX10 cards around, but atm, its not really usefull.
I would go with the 7950, its a good card (and a pretty improvement over the 7600)
