Default Cpu + graphics card help!!, please

quick and simple. Got battlefield 2. play for anywhere between 20 minuets-1 in half hrs. games crashes, everything is on high by the way. I'm trying to figure out what is wrong. I think it may be overheating my system but i'm not sure.

First off is there a program you could recommend for monitoring my cpu temperature and my graphics card temperature as i play battlefield 2.

Also now i don't know if this does have anyhting to doo with anyhting, but i was playing i usually get like 20-40 minuetes of play with battefield 2, last time i played i opend up the top and a side on my case, and it lasted for an hour in a half without crashing, and then crashed. so maybe it is the heat?

I have a pentium d overclocked to 3ghz, x800xl with zalman copper fan. thanks

Please post full system specs. Also, try lowering the settings to see if that causes it to stop. You may be right it could be heat. Have you got a temp at idle and load?

That system should run BF2. Sounds like an overheating issue. Probably either your CPU or video card is getting too hot.

What I mean is, do you know what temp your cpu is running at? By idle I mean when you are not running any programs, except maybe IE or something like that, and by load I mean when you're burning a DVD/Cd or running a virus scan? These tend to help pinpoint your problems.

I'd suggest downloading PC wizard 2006 to monitor your temps.

thanks for your help, i ended up going to bed and running memory test to see if the memory was the culprit, but 19 runs, no errors. anyways i downloaded speedfan and i will also try that wizard one, but right now "idle" as you describe it is at 48C. i don't know wether that is high or not. I will try to check the load a little later on and reply back, as for now i have to go to work. thanks for your help.

Well, I think the idle temp may be a tad high, although the Pentium D 8XX series were quite bad, due to the fact they used alot of power and in turn produced alot of heat, so I'm not completely sure.

dont worry about the mainboard too much, just worry about the CPU temp under load. Also, have you looked inside your case to see if dust is clogging your fans? This could be causing the crashes as the fans don't spin fast enough to provide adequate cooling therefore the processor overheats, and shuts off to avoid damage.
