Default installing adobe reader on vista - problem

I tried to install adobe reader 8.0 onto my notebook but i keep getting this error:

The Temp folder is on a drive that is full or is inaccessible. Free up space on that drive or verify that you have write permission on the Temp folder.

does anyone know what does that mean and what I'm supposed to do in order to solve the problem? thanks a lot i appreciate any help.

Currently I installed the 7.0 version when installing one software and let it update itself. I have that on the Vista Home Premium version on the second ide drive here as well as the two versions of XP on other drives. It went on without problems. The main download page for all versions is seen at http://www.adobe.com/products/acroba...ystemreqs.html

In Vista the latest security measure seen there is the "user account control" feature you can uncheck if you have administrative access. That may be hampering the installation there. Also temporarily disable the firewall and exit any antivirus programs active. Was this seen during a download or from a software cd?

this was seen during an installation process after I had just downloaded the set up from their website. I have UAC disabled and my antivirus disabled.

I don't get it.

Hey PC Eye, have you used Foxit? it's actually a very good free program that is comparable/better than adobe.

thanks

No I haven't even seen Foxit. But I have one drive set aside for beta testing and trying out freewares and sharewares alike. If you haven't finished installing all of your programs/games and whatever keep an eye out for the option to install Adobe directly from one of those disks. You probably have a security setting hampering you.

I was forced to disable the Windows Defender now included in Vista as well as the default firewall and UAC. I saw nothing but prompts to allow or deny after the Defender and firewall were disabled and tracked it to the UAC. Make sure those are switched off. You may have seen a bad download too.

one of the first things i did when i got vista was disabled the UAC because of it's annoying tendencies. I also disabled the sidebar as well.

the thing that puzzled me was I installed several programs so far with no problems but now I'm being troubled with adobe reader. Good thing foxit is a better reader for vista; so i hear.

I just hope Iranview goes on just as well as other things did here. You're not the only one that disabled the UAC and sidebar. I even disabled the built in firewall and of course the Windows Defender which wasn't that great when tried before. The sidebar is probably great for the office desktop but takes up a great deal of the desktop for the average user. With a a number of programs installed you have to bunch the desktop icons all up in one group. That's the lame item that should have been adjustable in size.

Have you tried the 7.0 version? That went on Vista just as easily as XP. On some sites you will see a newer version download and install right while you are there since it is required. Just before getting some of the newer softwares that included the 7.0 version I hit a few sites that upgraded the 6.0 version on the spot. If a download from that site still fails you could go to download.com or some other site. The security settings in IE 7 may be set too high with the antiphising filter enabled.
