Default Computer illiterate-- help!

So I'm in the market for a laptop. Mind you, I'm a writer who is completely computer illiterate. These are the basics of what I need-- any suggestions as to what computer would fit my qualifications would be GREATLY appreciated!

*I write-- using Word (I'm assuming I'll need to purchase Microsoft Office 2007).
*Need the ability to connect to the internet wirelessly (dh has a wireless router to hook up his Xbox360) so I can e-mail my work to clients.
*I'm debating getting a computer with Vista, or is it too new-- will there be too many glitches I won't be able to fix?

*My budget is $500-$600.

I've heard that Toshibas are the best...I'm looking at the Toshiba A130-ST1311 ($599).

What specs do I need and what computer would you recommend?
Thanks so much!
