Default mobile amd running to hot?

I have a compaq presario 2100(2199us) with a mobile amd athlon 2800

it runs normally low to mid 40's c and gets up to mid 50's c, when its really being worked like last night it peaked at 69c after the flurry screen saver cpukiller was running.

i dont think its cloged with dust or anything i had it apart and blew it out.

should it be running this high? could it be because it was abused by the previous owner?

when you took it apparet and cleaned it did you remove the cooler from the cpu? if you did you may need to apply new thermal paste

My Sempron 2800 runs around 51*C, and that's underclocked to 800MHz! I've seen intel's hitting around 80*C just surfing the web! So, I don't think your temps are all that bad. They are rather warm, but I don't think they are something to really worry about...

it could help, i'm planning on putting some arctic silver on my dell insprion's 1.5 ghz celeron M in hopes of making it run cooler. It's not that it runs too hot, but the cpu fan will turn off and on at least once a minute and it can get very very annoying. I currently have a program that sets the fan speed to low to avoid this annoyance but unfortunately the program only sets the fan speed at boot up so when i hybernate it's back to the same old annoying on and off routine.
