sorry if this doesnt make sence. i got it from another forum. i have the same problem but instead of the retail oem i have the RTM build.
I purchased Vista Home Premium ( Retail ) a couple of weeks ago - and have a new internal reformatted hard drive to install it on - I have run both the Dell and MS Vista Advisor Software - other than a couple of software issues - everything is SUPPOSED to be ok - I've tried several times to do a Clean install - each time during the first re-boot on the install - up comes the good old BSOD ( Blue Screen of Death ). Since I purchased a full retail version of Vista instead of waiting for the so called express upgrade ( I DO NOT WANT TO DO An Upgrade over XP - that's why I'm trying to do a custom clean install ). I posted this on several of the other forums - mainly the vista board - but got no help - so I was advised by an onboard Dell Rep here to post it here on the Dimension General Hardware Board. Below is the message he sent me by PM. Not really sure what to make of what he's saying - I have already downloaded all of the most current drivers - same thing happens and I'm at the point now of just giving up. Anyone have the same thing happen or have any suggestions. Thanks in advance Listed below is the original messages posted from a couple of PMs I saw a message you had removed in regards to a 9200 blue screen of death - I have a NEW FULL VERSION Vista Home Premium - I purchased that instead of waiting for the express upgrade for Vista Home Basic which I have no use for. I just purchased the pc Nov 15th - around 2 months ago. Anyway - I have tried without success to install Vista - during the installation at the first re-boot - up pops the blue screen with errors - I have done ALL updates - including the BIOS -- ( Must current one on Dell Site ) It was being installed on a brand new empty re-formatted hard drive - no luck - Dell customer support has been no help at all - in their words - they will only support the software if it comes from them - I'm just wondering what is going to be the difference installing what I have now and what Dell is sending ? If problems are encountered - not sure how they will handle that - I HAVE run both the Dell and MS preinstall software and have taken care of the minor issues noted - however - it does keep saying to update my BIOS to the most current from Dell - I've done that several times and DO have the most current. Any help would be awesome. Regards That said – it sounds to me like the problem may be driver related if your system only bluescreens after the first reboot , specifically the SATA / RAID drivers. These drivers are normally slipstreamed into Dell Windows disks and load the proper SATA controller drivers when Vista is installed. Customers installing from retail Microsoft media do not have these drivers included and experience symptoms similar to yours. It is possible to load the proper drivers during the initial setup process and may be the solution to your problem. My advice is to post the specifics of your issue on the Dimension General hardware boards so that the experts there can give you advice on how to get things set up. I hope this helps point you in the right direction
