Default Does this power supply match video card?

I want to update my video card, but I am not sure whether my existing power supply matches the video card or not.

The video card I want is: BFG Tech BFGR76256GTOCE GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card, from Newegg.com

According to the website, a 350W PCI Express compliant system power supply (with 12V current rating of 20A or more) is required.

Here is my existing power supply: +12V current rating is 22A, but the max output is 305W. (This info is from the label on the power supply) If I want to update my video card, do I need to update my power supply?

I also see several other video cards, but they also have this problem. They all need a 350W power supply with 12V current rating of 18A or more.

Thank you.

I would because running something that is lacking in power shortens its lifespan. Update it because you never know what that video card will pull under load.

There are some "good" video card with no specific power supply requirements in newegg. Does it mean those kinds of video card will work ok with my current power supply, 305W with +12V of 22A?

All video cards carry some power supply requirement. You might be fine with that power supply as the 7600GT requires very little power compared to other GPUs. From what I've read, it's probably the best and requires the least power out of any "decent" GPU you can get at the moment.

Thank you so much.

I really don't want to update my power supply, because it is a really new one that I just bought 2 weeks ago with my whole system. So, I will go to buy the 7600GT.

Again, thanks

Thumbs up

Get a really good PS and you will not be sorry! You will be able to use it for the next few years with future upgrades and such!
