Default 250GB Hard drive recongnised as 130GB

I've inserted a new 250GB hard drive into my PC and the BIOS recognises that it is 250GB but when I go to install the hard drive in disk management it says it only has 130GB can anyone help me?

Older motherboards use an older ATA controller which is only capable of reading up to 137GB I believe. To get around it you need to buy a PCI add-on card.

If its SATA, or it's a fairly new motherboard, then the problem is with your OS. If you have a version of Windows older then XP SP2 then they may not see the whole 250GB.

If the bios is seeing the whole 250gbs then your using a pre SP XP cd, download SP2 and slipstream it to your XP cd then it should see the whole 250gbs

If it is an LBA problem, an updated BIOS (if available) should fix it. Generally if the BIOS and OS support it then you are good.
