I have a question guys.....I have one harddrive and i was trying to format it.....however, when I go to format it it tells me i have to dismount first which I do know what that means and so fourth however.....this isn't like the old ones where I can go to the command prompt and so on.....so what do I have to do to format this harddrive?

How are you trying to format it? You can't format it using the OS because format will wipe out everything on the drive including the OS... that would be like someone trying to eat themselve to survive... hmm. You have to boot from the OS CD and format from there.

I was trying to go through my computer ------local area C:-----format....
That is how I was trying to do it....I also see your point. So having the cd is the only way to do that. I have a fresh copy of windows xp and i was trying to get the old version off of there completely

Yeah, formatting will wipe the hard drive completely (if it isn't partitioned). You'll either need to delete/uninstall the other version of windows or start fresh (again) by formatting through booting from the windows CD.
