Default Microphone not working

I just build a new computer with Vista and it seems the last kink to be worked out is my microphone not working. Everytime I start my computer it tells me it needs to install a multimedia driver. My motherboard is a MSI K9N Platinum. It has the Microphone port with all the other auido I/O. I have gone to MSI's site twice and downloaded the Vista multimedei driver but Vista still asks for a driver everytime I start it. The speakers work fine. When I blow into the microphone i can hear it through the speakers, but when I try and setup my mic by reading that sentance it doesn't hear me. Any help?!

Thanks,

Loren

I assume when you say multimedia drivers you mean you've gone here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=730&kind=1

and downloaded and installed the driver that says "Realtek High Definition Audio Driver". Also, when you say try to setup your mic by reading that sentence, what do you mean? Are you talking about for a speech to text program?

Test your mic by clicking start > accessories > entertainment > sound recorder, press record (the red circle), speak into your mic, then play it back.

Yes that is the driver I installed, more specifically, the one for Vista.

When you go to control panel > hardware and sound > manage audio devices > recording tab and they try and configure the mic, it asks you to read a sentance and then click next. Well I can't click next cause it doesnt hear me saying anything. Yes If I talk close enough to the mic and can hear myself through the speakers. My thought it that the hardware is working properly but the software is not.

You say that if you talk close enough to the mic you can hear yourself..this sounds like the mic gain is turned too low, or that the mic just sucks. Try going to the master volume (double click on the speaker in the system tray) and make sure "Microphone" or "Input" or something like that is turned up. Also, try using the mic on another computer and see if you get the same results.

Well the mic is decent, its a $30 logitech headset, and it sounds very distorted when it actually pics up sound, my lips have to be pretty much touching it. I have everything I can see turned up and it is plugged in where it is suppose to be. I am out of ideas here.
