Router Selection?

What makes a router good? Right now I have an older version of this router, which in my case, makes my 6 meg cable bottleneck to 2.5 meg, with 2 computers on the router. Will a better router allow me to maximize the bandwidth.

I feel dumb paying for 6 meg cable and only using 2.5 megs.

Please explain the different specs and what to look for when purchasing a new router.

Where do you see your router's causing such a bottleneck? Yes, router's are the slowest part of most networks, but it shouldn't be THAT slow...

I think I can attribute it too bandwidth usage, it is cable after all...

I ran a speed test during peak usage and got a little overzealous with my assumption....

Although I may be in need of a new router, any suggestions?
