Default I miss my plextor :(

I'm running a samsung 18x dvd recorder these days, and right about now i'm missing my plextors, no matter how unreliable they were.

I'm using cheap compUSA brand discs, and the plextor could always force at least 8x burning on even 4x media, and now i'm sitting here burning the discs on the samsung, and it takes 15 minutes to burn each disc

If anyone out there is considering a samsung drive, save your pennies, and get something better.

Even at 4x, i'm only having about a 80% success rate. The plextor had 100% success rate, and did a better job, even. Even on no-name media.

You touched a Samsung and learned a valuable lesson apparently. I simply run Sony brand cd and dvd burners here and always see great results with the exception of an occasional frisbie due to bad media even found in name brand containers. dvd burning even for data dvds does generally take several minutes and does place a demand on cpu time. I've seen some burns take 20 minutes on occasion for a larger volume of data.

Stuff like intellegent recording methods, etc. was just great on the plextor.

On almost ALL media, no matter what the rated speed, the plextor could write at LEAST 2x faster than rated, with great results.

The samsung's OK, it's just very basic. Next time i'll definitely pay extra for a GREAT drive vs. an ALRIGHT drive.

The plextor could even do stuff like record at a SLOWER speed, to fit as much as 80% more data onto a disc!

You don't get features like that on a 'basic' drive.

is probably your setup, i have the same drives, one ide and one sata version and it burns a dvd in about 10 minutes.

Actually, I also have a Samsung on Simon (Second in sig) and it actually takes longer to burn than my LG DVD-RAM in Ernesto (First in sig)

It really depends how your system is set, but if you have a performance loss, it could be that the burner isn't burning at correct speeds or that the cache is less than the Plextors. If you miss them, why not have them put back in?

i can't put them back in because they both failed.

they wouldn't hold firmware, and would work until i turned the computer off if i flashed the firmware, but after a reboot, or shutting my computer off, they would no longer work.

Wasn't there a locking to do before you flashed firmware? You could of gotten another board for them, but yeah...that's not easy.

Indeed. A lot of PCs and I have to name them. I can't say my PII, because there's many.

I'll name them all if you want (In order in sig)

Ernesto
Simon
Bruce
Runner
Bad Axe
Angel
Jack
Jukekid

EDIT: They're not in order I'll need to fix the sig.
