by default in OE go to -->Tools-->Option-->maintanance-->store folder. Copy the full path and go to Start-->run-->and paste that path.

back up everything you see there. Now when you re-install windows that destination folder is empty.Dont put your originals there yet, first create your email address and what-not then close OE. go back to that folder and you will see some files that OE created. Delete them and put the ones you backed up from your previous windows..

For contacts bacup go to File-->export-->address book
Export as Text file (csv)..then click export.Give a name and Put it where you want. Next are some fields. Tick all of em (if u want,or the ones which matters to you)..the voila..DONE... thats manually

automatically you can download this :

Thank you all for your suggestions. X looks like a nice product, will will try it out. I also found Outlook Express Backup Genie http://www.amicutilities.com/outlook-express-backup which does the job right and fast. I will try them out more and then buy one!
