Question Excercise in this age??????????

Hello gusy,

Actually there is no problem. I want to know the opinion of you about doing sit ups at home. I am 16 year old and I am skinny (but not that skinny). I am interested in doing sit ups and push ups and I was doing that for 1 month. I just lay on the floor (I use blanket, when I feel the ground so hard) and take sit ups. But my parents says you dont have to do any excerise. You walk almost 3km every day. And thats enough for your body.

What you guys think about this? Does anyone know the scientific effect of doing sit ups? Is it ok with me?? Anyone know the proper way of doing sit ups?????

All suggestions are welcome

It is never bad to exercise. You probably are getting a good workout with certain muscles when you walk 3k, but when you do situps and pushups it works different muscles. There's obviously a point where it is too much, but you aren't anywhere near there.

Once you hit 14 you can start most weight workouts... and just getting by with what the body needs is not what you want, is it? Regularly doing intensive workouts, not just weights mind you, is a great thing to do... just think of what people were (and some still are) doing in the farms and labor industries 100 years ago. We'd be the equivalent of kings with the amount of physical work we have to do.

I wouldn't suggest running too much. You will burn calories and you are trying to get ripped, not skinnier.

I would suggest a good diet, a little running, biking would be great too. You can do low weights with high reps for definition. If you want to pump up, you'll want to do heavier weights and lower reps. But be careful and work out with someone. Makes it more fun.

I think it's wonderful to exercise, and look at how old I am(Or am I?). Like just this afternoon, I rode 7 miles on my bike. Lifted some weights, did some sit-ups, push-ups. Different stuff. But just a tip, before doing any exercise, it's best to stretch beforehand. You'll feel much better.

you cant get something out of nothing... so if your skinny theres nothing to turn into muscle, so its just a waste of time if your after improving physical performance.
eat high protein food, like meat and fish and stuff, get a little fat, then try it again.
(did a course in this stuff )

MY Doctor told me sit-ups are the WORST exersize you can do Bad for the heart with the strain that is put on it,cycling is better for you since you use the same muscles, better cardio also! Thats what I do! Sit-ups are for pugilists for their stamina. We here at the forum will execise the most important muscle you have!!

the main reason for muscular development is psychological, sounds odd.
you need to push yourself at a medium weight until you cant lift it any more (not over exerting yourself like with smaller weights)
the weight you try you should only be able to do about 10 reps of in total until it gets too hard.
this gives your mind a sense of failure, so it goes about slowly improving on it.
repeat as much as you can put up with
