Default Vista Premium with Aero

Will i be able to enable all the features in windows vista premium and aero with this:

Pentium D Processor 915 with Dual Core Technology (2.8GHz, 800FSB)

Memory 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 2DIMMs

Video Cards Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3000

Hard Drives 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache

Pleeeeease say yes lol i already bought the computer, vista premium didnt cost me a penny but it would bug me if i had the feature of aero but i couldnt use it.

On the intel site it says exactly this:

Desktop PC platforms based on the
Intel® G965 Express Chipset, combined with either the Intel® Core™2 Duo processor or Intel® Pentium® D processor, deliver innovative capabilities and usages for digital home consumers. Exciting improvements expand digital home capabilities, while enabling lower power and quieter systems.

Platforms based on the Intel® G965 Express chipset, when configured with memory devices of adequate amount and speed, meet all current requirements for the Windows Vista* Premium OS system logo.

So, im guessing dell is wrong then Because premium comes with aero?

The microsoft website says this:

Windows Vista Capable and Premium Ready Footnotes

Processor speed is specified as the nominal operational processor frequency for the device. Some processors have power management which allows the processor to run at lower rate to save power.

If the GPU uses shared memory, then no additional graphics memory is required beyond the 1 GB system memory requirement; If the GPU uses dedicated memory then 128MB is required.

A DVD-ROM may be external (not integral, not built into the system).

Sorry if im bugging anybody id just like to know if it will work or not, i just ordered the computer.

Yes Aero will work. The X3000 meets all the requirements but for it will probably need a fair bit of RAM assigned to it. I haven't had the chance to use a system with a G965 so I don't know how fast it will be.

I take it you bought a Dell? If you have an open PCIe 16x slot you can add a discrete video card later if necessary.

Yes, i bought a dell e520. Phew, im happy about that. Well, I only use my PC for Internet, E-Mail through outlook express, Instant Messaging and thats about it. With 2 gigs and running vista do you think my computer will be slow? How much of my HDD do you think will be taken up? I will not be putting office or any other software on there, except my printer software.

For only internet and other general use it should be plenty fast enough. I don't know how big the Vista install is from Dell but you'll get a bunch of 'bonus' software that you don't want or need. For that 80GB drive I think you'll have about 60GB free give or take (it starts at about 76GB).

Yeah well with any other dell ive had ive debugged the comp and formatted and then done a clean install. Or if im lazy i just edit the registry and stuff myself, i guess ill have to see how well they do on installing vista! With my laptop and my grammas i had to redo em both because they were missing some dll file, dell should stick with selling computers and let the customers install lol.

ok well heres the specs on my laptop with xp sp2. Do you think it will be faster than this:

1 gig of ram
40 gig hard drive
pentium m 725 i believe, 1.7Ghz
Windows XP sp2
ummmmm i think this is the graphics card: Intel 82852/82855 gm/gme graphics controller

Now, to assign ram to the graphic card would that be something i have to do or should my computer automatically do it? My idea of a "fast" computer is something that runs smooth and doesnt lag. I usually have WMP, my music folder, AIM and internet explorer open all at the same time all using that stuff. With the ram that aero will steal do you think my system would still run smooth without lagging or having any speed issues?

It should be automagic. I believe the X3000 can dynamically allocate what is needed. I don't see it lagging unless aero is a lot heavier on the graphics then I think it is. It may skip a little when you first start the 3D alt-tabbing or something but I don't think it will be major.

The graphics card on the laptop you have is worse, if your Pentium D 915 was single core you could argue that a Pentium M is better. The desktop you got will be faster than the laptop.

niice. I looked to see if the laptop was compatable and it is, but they recommend home basic. So, do you think this graphics card will come with the most up to date driver or will i have to go to intel and download it? And what exactly will this driver up date do? Make it compatable with aero or something?
