Default My 460CDT :(

Hi guys i haven't posted in a while,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 460CDT (from 98 or 99) and i am in the middle of upgrading from windows 95 to ME, so i formatted the computer and used it in DOS mode. Now this is where it gets stupid...the back slash key stopped working so i removed the keyboard, cleaned it, replaced the old silicon nipple thing under the key with a new one and it still didn't work.

...so, my options:
1. Spend £50-60 on a new keyboard that is specifically for the 460CDT and install it myself (5 minute job)
2. Try and see if it will accept an external keyboard (£20) whilst in DOS mode.
3. Send it to a repair centre, get the keyboard fixed, get the OS installed and get the drivers re-installed (anywhere from £70+)

Now i think that option 3 is a bit too much to spend on an old laptop, so really option 3 is a last resort.

Well, what do you guys think ?

First off, I wouldn't be "upgrading" to ME. You'd be MUCH better off going to 98 or 2000.

As for the backslash, why do you need it? Are you just saying in general or is this preventing you from getting windows loaded, as you shouldn't need it...

Eh, anyway... An external keyboard should do the trick, but I'm still a little confused about why it just gave out. It's pretty rare a button will just give out like that...

id go with an external keyboard, i have this tiny roll up oe that says virtually indestructable, and it is, it has lasted along time and it still works great, and, an added bonus being made of sqiushing stuff means no annoying keyobardish clicking.

i tried an external keyboard...it don't work. I don't why.

I was thinking of upgrading to 98 instead of ME just as i was turining my PC on. 98 it is.

I don't know if you have ever used a computer in DOS mode before but you need the backslash key to type in the commands.

mayeb if you look really deep into it, you will find a software problem. it could be screwed up somewhere, though i dont know how.
