Hello fellows,

I've got stuck in a big problem. I have an old computer running Win XP Home. It used to work perfectly. But suddenly, it stopped connecting to the Internet, and the detail problem is as below:

- When I tried to connect to the ADSL router via DHCP provided by the server, it didn't even send a DHCP request to the broadcast (Of course I have configured it to use automatic IP as normally). Instead, it sent some NetBios Name Service Requests to the broadcast IP, and no reply. I've noticed this by using Analyzer to capture packet appeared in the NIC.

- When I tried to connec to the Internet via a non DHCP LAN network (in this case IP details are configured manually), it still didn't work. Then I tried to ping a name, e.g., ciscopress.com, again it didn't send any DNS query, but instead, some NetBios requests. But it works well with ARP, and can receive other packets appeared on network link.

- Another phenomenon is that in both case above, I'm able to ping the IP address whether its location is in LAN or in the Internet, but not the DNS name, and I could also connect this computer with my other computer directly or via router to share programs in Windows XP.

- The same phenomena happen when I tried to use other working NIC.

- I'm sure this is not the problem of the other devices in the network because I could connect my other computer successfully with the same network configuration.

I thought this was NIC problem, but different cards didn't work, and now maybe it's software problem (e.g., configuration), but I don't know exactly what.

If anyone may raise an idea, please share it to me, I really appreciate.
