32 it's not that bad anyway...

Wiping my tears of joy. This is what I needed. This answers my main question...for now....Can I end some processes?? I've been so frustrated with my pc that I'd love to shut it all down, but I don't think that would be very practical.

Don't feel too bad, Monoman. My pc at home has about 42 processes running at the same time. My computer keeps getting slower and slower. I'm not an expert, but I do have to wonder if this is part of the problem. I guess the other part might be that I don't have a lot of memory on my computer (I got the basic when I got my Dell ...I don't use it for work purposes...just personal stuff).

I'm going to keep reading though. I have plenty of questions. lol Defrag issues will pop up somewhere I hope.

Wow. So, do you have time to brew a pot of coffee and shower while your computer starts up, or do you just have a lot of memory on your pc?

Yeah. Good question about the multiple running processes. Makes no sense. I noticed it too. I wonder if you could set some of them to low priority and leave one high? And no I'm not going to try this without finding out more lol...I'm being a smarta$$...well, I did think about it though. Just being honest.

Are you trying to improve performance? Do you not have much RAM? Is your system using a lot or resources? If not, I'd just let it be.

Yeah, I have 7 svchost.exe...

a few CLI.exe
some ati2evxx.exe
some iexplore (but I know why that is, lol)

I usually just end a lot of processes... ones that don't seem like anything good.
If my comp still runs afterwards, yay =)
If not, reboot and try again, except don't cancel the one that made it mess up, lol.
Except I was using that list for all the processes.
and I found a trojan amung one of them, lol :]

Oh, and I have 2GB ram.
but no, I don't brew a pot of coffee :[
I just log on, and do what I have to do.
Doesn't really seem to go that slow.
Even though it is only an AMD 3000+

Okay. You've got balls. I don't. I'm afraid of trying to end anything.

I have AVG because I'm cheap. It has picked up trojan a couple of times. So, you actually found viruses without the help of an anti-virus program?

I went into my computer properties. This is what it says:

256 MB of Ram.

I don't think that's probably a good thing though.

Well, at least it was described as a trojan.
I'm using mcafee, I'm suprised it didn't detect it.
It was like, msrgms.exe or something.

I'm not a major computer person, but I've heard McAfee isn't all that good. You can download AVG free. It has worked pretty good for me so far.
