Default Presario 5000 wont take Win XP

Having a hard time to put Win XP on a Compac Presario 5000 800MHz
Takes 98 but the monitor is on base driver. Put upgraded driver in but wont take. Put upgraded BIOS driver in but did not help.
What do you think could be the problem
Should be able to run XP right????

800MHz is more than enough for XP, but I'm sure 98 would be fine. The bios and video have nothing to do with each other. You're probably just loading the wrong driver or something minor like that. 98 sometimes can be very picky when it comes to drivers...

The available information found on setting up that model and series Compaq(with a Q) Presario 5000 is seen at http://pcworld.about.com/gi/dynamic/...www.compaq.com

Since that came with 98 preinstalled along with a hidden recovery partition for the softwares you will probably end up deleting the current partitions and allow XP to create a new primary and auto install a working display driver. I haven't even bothered looking around for a BenQ driver for the lcd here with Vista installed on the second drive. XP loves a fresh partition to install onto along with the fresh detection of all hardwares installed.

You should still be able to get some XP updates for that model by going through the HP support site since they bought out Compaq some time back. You may not be able to go from XP upto Vista later however due to the age of the system. By then you will be lookng into a newer model or building your own so no worry there.
