Default Overclocking CPU with crapy ram.

Can you just overclock your cpu but not your ram and jst change the ratio. because i have a E6400 and i want to overclock it but i have crapy ram. can i jst over clock the cpu and then jst change the ratio of the ram so it doesnt push it so it wont fry?
