Default Ftp & Ms-dos 6.2

Hi
I have PC running Ms-dos 6.2 and connects to Netware 3.12 via LAN for file transfer. Due to some restrictions, I can not upgrade software or hardware on this system. I am planning to discontinue usnig netware and replace it with FTP server. With this in mind , is it possible to run a ftp on thic PC to attach to a Windows 2K/2003 FTP server? I searched no. of DOS sites but I could not find any workable software. I appreciate if anyone could give me a practical solution?

For a start you are running the wrong OS namely dos Fat16 to connect to an NTFS based server. You would need at least NT 4.0 to see this done. Dos 6.22 would be out of the question there due to compatibilty issues right from the start. There was one idea of NT4Dos to consider since that allows a Fat16 or Fat32 dos to access an NTFS partition. That however is when the types are on the same system.

well technically DOS can read NTFS but can not write to it. There are third party utilities that allow DOS to do this. However, your situation is one that I do not think there is a very good solution really with our upgrading the software/hardware.

If you want to accomplish network storage you may look into building a cheap Linux box. Also FTP is not secure, it sends users/passwords in plain text over your network. You would want to set up FTP over ssh or something of the like.

When dual booting XP with 98SE here and shutdown to dos or booting up with the 98 startup disk the XP partition couldn't even be seen. That's where NT4Dos came in. But not being able to upgrade the system there as far as OS or hardwares will continue to place limits on what will work. Is this being seen on a system owned by a business?
